I "grew up" with early versions of . It took me ages to get my first configuration working and I was constantly re-compiling the kernel to match my hardware. Sound was kind of a miracle when it worked with no-name SB clones.

Nowadays I'm totally in awe when Bluethooth mice and audio, 3D acceleration and connecting external USB-C displays "just work" on modern distributions... 😬

    OK... #Wayback is pretty cool.
Even in its early-version state (a few weeks), #bspwm works fine!

I can literally run bspwm in #Wayland with no issues from what I've found so far!

This is the #X11 future I want!

    Shell: zsh 5.9

WM: bspwm (X11))

I haven't obsessed this much with my desktop since I was .. much younger. Trying to make it functional and purrty on 30 year old hardware is challenging but fun. Thanks to and the fact that most old X and tools are still around and do all the things they always did - and haven't bloated much in those 30 years - helps a lot.

I'll take Wayland when it comes my way without me having to lift a finger, but until then I'm glad the X Window System is still around. Keeps this old hardware useful.
